Alabama-LSU Preview

LSU (4-4, 2-3 SEC) looks to play spoiler in Tuscaloosa as the Tigers and Tide renew their rivalry this weekend. This has been a very disappointing year for LSU fans, but that can all be swept under the rug if they are able to pull off the upset and likely knock Alabama out of College Football Playoff contention.

Alabama (7-1, 4-1 SEC) is coming off a bye week following their victory over Tennessee a couple of weeks ago. The Tide have responded well after their loss the Texas A&M in early October and seem to be back on track. They’re averaging over 45 points per game and over 580 yards of total offense. Quarterback Bryce Young has thrown for 2453 yards, 26 touchdowns, and only 3 interceptions this year. Running back Brian Robinson Jr. has also broken onto the scene in Tuscaloosa this year, accumulating over 700 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Defense will be a big key for LSU this weekend and they will need to make a complete one-hundred-eighty degree turn from what we’ve seen so far this year if they want to keep this game from being a blowout. They’re giving up 408 total yards per game to their opponents so far this season and 18 of their 31 touchdowns allowed have come through the air. This cannot continue this weekend against this high-powered Alabama passing game.

On the offensive side of the ball for LSU, ball protection will need to be at the top of the priority list. Giving Bryce Young and company the ball with good field position is a recipe for a blowout. Max Johnson needs to play at the highest level as well, the quarterback has thrown for 2009 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions this year.
