Kentucky-Mississippi State Preview

The Kentucky Wildcats travel to Starkvegas today to take on Mississippi State as they try to keep their SEC East hopes alive. Mississippi State, on the other hand, is looking to stay on track and keep the momentum of the 45-6 win over Vanderbilt last week going.

This Bulldog team has been inconsistent at best and hasn’t really found an identity in this team. They defeated a good NC State team early in the season but then lost the following week to Memphis. They lost to LSU, but then beat Texas A&M, who took down Alabama. How this game goes depends on what Bulldog team we’re going to see today.

I thought Kentucky would be a decent team this year, I love what Coach Stoops is doing with that program and I think it is a recipe for success, but I never thought that they would be doing this well at this point in the season. They run the ball with passion, have the ability to get the big plays through the air and play vicious defense.

Key Players

Mississippi State’s Will Rogers is going to need to have a big game through the air in order to bring home the victory today. The quarterback has thrown for over 2500 yards and 18 touchdowns at a 73.5% clip. As impressive as that line is, he has thrown 7 interceptions and he’ll need to be extra careful with the football because if Kentucky can grind the ground game like I think they will, Rogers may not get as many possessions as he would hope for.

Kentucky’s Christopher Rodriguez Jr. needs to get back on track because he is the heart and soul of that offense. After having 7 yards on 7 carries against Georgia, I think he will have a massive day and bounce back.

Mississippi State’s offensive line will be the biggest factor in this game. If they can protect Rogers and allow him to throw the ball downfield, State may be able to pull off the upset.
