Auburn-Ole Miss Preview

Perhaps the game with the most implications this weekend will be in Auburn, Alabama between #10 Ole Miss and #18 Auburn. Ole Miss (6-1, 3-1 SEC) is coming off a lopsided victory over LSU last week, while Auburn is coming off a bye. The Rebels and Tigers currently sit 2nd and 3rd in the West, so the result of this game could make or break both these teams’ seasons.

Both teams have explosive offenses, Ole Miss averages over 40 points per game while Auburn averages 35. Auburn has the better defense though, only allowing 19 points per game to Ole Miss’s 28.

Key Players

Ole Miss’s Matt Corral has had a Heisman caliber season, throwing for almost 2000 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only 1 interception at a 67% completion percentage. He’s also added 9 touchdowns and 474 yards on the ground. He’ll need to keep his composure though, as Jordan-Hare is one of the most intense atmospheres in the country.

Tank Bigsby will need to perform to limit the amount of scoring chances that Corral and company get. Bigsby has rushed for 526 yards and 6 touchdowns on the year and continues to be the main man in the Auburn offense.

The Auburn special teams unit will be a key aspect of this game. If the offense starts to sputter, it will be up to the special teams to put their defense in a good position to keep the Rebel’s offense in check. The kickers will also need to be on point when the offense puts them in position to get points.
