Arkansas vs Georgia Southern preview

The Razorbacks moved into the AP rankings this week at #20 after a dominant win on Saturday night against the Texas Longhorns 40-21. Arkansas hasn’t started 3-0 since 2016 but they’re looking to change that come Saturday.

The Georgia Southern Eagles (1-1) started the season with a gritty win against Gardner-Webb, but in week 2 lost on the road to FAU 38-6. The Eagles offensive struggles are primarily due to the suspension of QB Justin Tomlin (R-Jr.) not being on the field. After 2 weeks of being suspended Tomlin will get the nod at QB against the Razorbacks on Saturday.

Arkansas proved Saturday that their offense can be as dominant as their defense. The hogs rushes for 333 yards and 4 touchdowns on 47 attempts with the carries split between several backs. Offensive coordinator Kendal Briles continues to utilize KJ Jefferson (R-Soph.) who ran for 73 yards. Although the defense was great on Saturday, Jefferson showed his arm strength when necessary.

The Razorbacks defense could have not played a better game than they did Saturday by holding Texas scoreless at halftime. Linebacker Bumper Pool (Sr.) sat out the first half due to a targeting call prior to this game but the defense never missed a beat. Senior Linebacker Hayden Henry stepped up huge and won defensive player of the week honors with 15 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

The depth for Arkansas isn’t as tough on the hogs as it’s been in the past, especially with the injuries and targeting ejections.

Georgia Southern will come out a different team with their QB back this week. Could this be a trip up game for the hogs before Texas A&M? I doubt it. Arkansas controls what they need to control and looks forward to the matchup with top ranked Texas A&M next week at Jerry world that many have marked on the schedule.
