Georgia takes on UAB, likely without JT

The Bulldogs will most likely have to take on the Blazers without their star quarterback J.T. Daniels, who is dealing with an upper-body injury. According to reports this week, Daniels has been nursing this injury for a number of weeks now. Coach Kirby Smart has not officially named a starter yet, but Carson Beck has taken the majority of the 1st-team reps at practice. If Beck does indeed get the start, it will be our first real look at what the Jacksonville, Florida native can do.

Georgia will also be without Tate Ratledge, whose season came to an end last week against Clemson where he suffered a foot injury.

The Dawgs are coming off a huge top-5 win against Clemson where the defense tallied 7 sacks and only allowed 2 yards rushing. Christopher Smith II scored the only touchdown of the game on a 74-yard pick-six. The offensive game plan was very conservative, which showed the respect that the Georgia coaching staff had for Clemson’s defense, but they were able to run the ball when they needed to at the end of the game. QB J.T. Daniels went 22/30 for 135 yards and one interception.

UAB defeated Jacksonville State 31-0 last week. Their offense totaled 517 yards of offense, including 370 through the air. But the Blazers offense wasn’t the only side of the ball to thrive that day, their defense only allowed 157 total yards. QB Tyler Johnston went 17-21 for 319 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Georgia fans should not take this UAB team as just another Group of Five team that they expect to crush. This is a good Blazers team that will give Georgia everything it can handle.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET at Dooley Field in Sanford Stadium.
